Optical Coherence Tomography

An Optical Coherence Tomography scan (commonly referred to as an OCT scan) is the latest development in imaging technology. It works similar to ultrasound; this analytic tool employs light rather than sound waves to achieve higher resolution pictures of the structural layers of the back of the eye.

Similar to a CT scan of the eye, a scanning laser analyzes the optic nerve and the layers of the retina for any signs of disease. It operates by using light without radiation, and is critical for early diagnosis of diabetic retinal disease, macular degeneration and glaucoma.

With this important diagnostic instrument, Our Doctors are provided with cross-sectional images of the retina that are color-coded. These comprehensive images are transforming early detection and treatment of eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, glaucoma and wet and dry age-related macular degeneration.

An OCT scan is a noninvasive, completely painless test. It is performed in about 10 minutes right in our office. Feel free to contact our office 770.415.8902 to inquire about an OCT!
