LASIK Eye Surgery FAQ

What is it?

Laser-Assisted-In-Situ Keratomileusis is an FDA-approved outpatient procedure that utilizes an excimer laser to reshape the cornea to correct vision. It is the most commonly used sight correction procedure in the United States.

Why do People Choose LASIK?

LASIK eye surgery is a great option for people who suffer from vision problems, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Today, it is also possible for people with presbyopia to have the procedure. LASIK allows for clear vision without the use of a corrective aid such as glasses or contact lenses.

Is it Safe?

Millions of procedures have been done all over the world since it was first introduced in 1998. The procedure has revolutionized how we correct our vision. The technology has improved immensely over the years, making LASIK safer than ever.

What is the Procedure Like?

The eye surgeon uses a computer to precisely machine the shape of an individual's cornea based on medical scans and the patient's clinical needs so that he or she can have better vision with glasses or contact lenses. The surgery includes using a blade called a microkeratome and a laser beam to reshape the corneal tissue so that light isn’t focused incorrectly or blurred. The whole procedure takes less than 15 minutes.
